Welcome to the INCARNATE Theater Treasure Hunt!
This week, I’ve asked 45 book bloggers to help me celebrate the release of my debut YA novel INCARNATE. I’ll point you at them in just a second. First, I’m sure you have a few questions.
1. What is the INCARNATE Theater Treasure Hunt?
It’s a treasure hunt. Follow CLUE blogs to get the password to a protected page on my website. There, you will find a treasure and a grand prize entry form. Participate in activities on ACTIVITY blogs to get extra entries in the grand prize drawing for a better chance of winning.
2. What are the prizes?
Grand prize: Signed, annotated hardcover; fingerless mitts; a first-edition hardcover of one of my favorite books; character named after them in book 3 (adjusted to fit the world if necessary, and might end up dead); swag
Two runners up: Signed hardcover; fingerless mitts; swag
Maybe some other stuff.
And yes, these are international.
3. How long do I have to do all this?
The treasure hunt ends February 6 at midnight. (Eastern.) Winners will be announced on February 7.
4. What do you mean clues?
On every CLUE blog, there is a clue. There are 26 clue blogs.
Twenty of these blogs have a letter that goes in the password. We’ve made it easy for you: the bloggers will tell you which word their letter goes in so it will be easier to unscramble. (First word, second word, etc.) When you type this password into the password box, remember there are no spaces between the words! The password is exactly 20 characters long.
I recommend grabbing a piece of paper to write down the letter from each blog, that way it’s easy to keep track of. Four words. Two punctuations. No spaces. And remember, the password is CASE SENSITIVE, so the first letter of every word is capitalized.
As for the other six clue blogs . . . they have another secret word. Their word will get you 50 extra entries into the grand prize drawing, so be sure to unscramble that, too. You’ll type it into the form on the secret page.
5. What are the activities for? Can I win the grand prize without activities?
You can! But by participating in activities, you increase your chances of winning the grand prize. Plus, the activities are fun and several bloggers are hosting their own giveaways, so you might win something there, too.
6. How will you know if I do an activity?
Oh trust me, I will know! Just make sure you fill out the form when you’ve completed the activity on a blog. Make sure you use the same contact information every time if you want it to count! Then fill out the grand prize drawing entry form and wham. You’re entered.
And be careful — some of the blogs are doing their own giveaways, so you might have to fill out two forms, or a form and a Rafflecopter. Just pay attention to what the blog says, and ask if you have a question.
7. So . . . I follow the clue blogs, unscramble the clues, and use the password. I also participate in activities and fill out the forms. Then I can win?
Yep! Then you’re entered in the random drawing.
8. Can you get me started?
Just to prove that I like you and want you to win? Yes. Here’s a clue blog. Here’s an activity blog. They’ll each have a few links on them. Click away, my friend. Remember, there are 26 clue blogs and 19 activity blogs. And don’t give out the clues to people who haven’t looked. You don’t want them to win by cheating, do you??
9. Okay, so that’s all awesome. I went to look at the blogger posts and saw . . . you know. You know what you created, Jodi.
I do know. And you should be aware that I don’t replace keyboards or monitors if you accidentally spit your drink while laughing.
10. Lots of the blogs say there are more participating blogs than you say there are. What’s up? Can’t you math?
I admit, I’m bad at math. But this time is an exception. We lost a couple participating blogs at the last minute and I didn’t want to send yet another email to my blogger friends and make them update their posts. So trust me. There are 26 clue blogs and 19 activity blogs.
11. Where’s the password-protected page?
And remember, the password is CASE SENSITIVE. So the first letter of every word is capitalized.

Since one blog hasn’t posted yet, I’ll go ahead and give you their clue — it’s the letter u and it goes in the second word.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask! I hope you have fun!
I have been to all the sites thrice at least. The two posts haven’t come up. I am counting the total clue blogs to 25! And some of the posts don’t tell what word (first, second) the alphabet belongs to. :(
Ok, there are 26 blogs, got them. That part is clear.
Did you get it figured out? There are 26 clue sites. 20 are for the password. 6 are for the secret word you fill out on the form on that page.
I know one of the sites isn’t up yet, and another is linked incorrectly; I sent out an update, but here it is for now.
I just shared this on my FB page. What a wonderful idea!!! I’ve ordered a copy and can’t wait for it to arrive. I do believe I will be reading it before passing it on to my high schooler :-).
Thank you! <3
I am super confused! I’ve been to all of the blogs but two of them don’t have the clues up yet and two others don’t state which word the letter goes to. Also, I counted (and double checked) that I have 19 letters (including the end) from the blogs but that doesn’t make sense since you said there were only 20 characters and I’m missing two letters?
I did get the other word though!
Hi Elena! One of the blogs isn’t up yet, I’m afraid. I’m sorry! The other one was incorrectly linked — my fault. Here’s the URL for the one I think you’re missing.
You may have to fill in the last letter, but it should be easy to figure out! It makes a complete sentence with TWO pieces of punctuation at the end. Just make sure there are no spaces, and you capitalize the first letter of each word.
I’m also having trouble – I’m the geek with the spreadsheet going.
I have 23 letters, 3 without a defined “password” or “first word”. 2 “Ends” and I think I’m being let in circles with the activities. Unwritten and Reading Vacation aren’t up yet… Nor is fictitious musings.
Feel free to email me and I’ll send you what I have. Fix the hiccups before there’s more q’s.. ;-)
There are two ends, both punctuation. Both of those go in the password. Reading Vacation isn’t up yet, I’m sorry. She had to go to school! Unwritten and Fictitious Musings are fake ones! I’m sorry. Those were the wrong URLS. Here are the ones you’re looking for:
Fire Star Books
Confessions of a Book Junkie
Even with the missing one, you should be able to fill it in! The password is a complete sentence, plus two punctuation marks. :)
Whoops, a thing here. The 4th word IS NOT plural, right?
Never mind.
It is plural! :)
Jajaja, yeah. I didn’t found the S, but it sounded wrong S-less. Besides, I had an extra !.
Phew! That was exhausting! ;) All but 2 done and I am in NO WAY talented enough for the artistic 2 lol This was fun and COME ON MAMA NEEDS A NEW PAIR OF MITTS!
Here’s hoping!!
What do I use for my electronic signature?
You just type your name. :)
Ok, thank you. I guess my head’s not working properly…
Everybody says their word is the forth word! I am so confused!
There are several letters in the fourth word. Keep looking! You’ll find the others!
Thanks, that was fun! Got everything. I am really looking forward to reading it! Can’t wait!!!!
Thanks! I hope you enjoy it!
Thanks so much for such an incredible treasure hunt! Loved it:)
So glad you had fun!
Thanks for the fun hunt, Jodi! I learned a lot, and made some cheese headlines, and I’m going to work on the crafty stuff tonight, even more fun.
Congrats on the big day!
Awesome! I’m glad you had fun! :D
Hi Jodi!
I forgot to tell you – I love how you used math as a verb “Can’t you math?” I laughed so hard because it’s so true! I’m like you! Like math is a sport and like basketball I can’t get the darn ball in the hoop!
A request, could you please please please add your knitted people (and the dragon!!) to the prizes? They’re so beautiful!
Oooh, maybe one day! But I might need these knitties again for next year!
I did it!!!!! Yeah!!!! I really cannot wait to read your book!
Yay!! :D
Hi! Sorry I’m asking you, but couldn’t you please tell us a list with all the links? Please! I can’t find all the sites, and I really don’y know where to look! Thank you :)
Hi there! All the participating bloggers have links to a few more blogs at the end of their posts, so keep an eye out for them. If I told you all the links, it wouldn’t be very treasure hunt like, would it? ;)
Your book looks beautiful and I can’t wait to read it!
Thank you! I hope you enjoy it!
finally got the 20 letter password but still trying to unscramble the 6 letter word argh!
If you need help, look at the description for the book.
Thanks for organising this exciting treasure hunt, Jodi:)
Best wishes!
Sarah
Oh man. This blog is cool. How do you make it look like this .
