Yeah, I meant to post this yesterday, and even though I knew it was February 28, I forgot that it was the last day of the month and didn’t post. Ooops. So, I’m only a day behind, at least.
What I’ve been working on: Mostly the Black Knife novellas. I finished writing the last one in the beginning of the month, turned them in, and shortly after got edits on the first one. (Along with a shiny new deadline.)
I’ve also been researching for Spinning Story. (That’s a code name, not a title.)
What I’ve been reading:
- OF BEAST AND BEAUTY by Stacey Jay – I loved how this one basically reversed everything from the fairy tale. Great twist! Plus, science fantasy.
- AN EMBER IN THE ASHES by Sabaa Tahir (ARC) – I loooooved this one. Really strong worldbuilding, characters, plotting — I could go on. Get this one on your TBR lists. I’ll be talking this one up for a long time.
- TANGLED WEBS by Lee Bross (ARC) – A lady blackmailer in historic London? Sign me up!
- THE SHADOW QUEEN by CJ Redwine (manuscript) – You probably know by now that I am a huge fan of CJ’s! This book doesn’t come out for another year, but get it on your TBR shelves. This is a Snow White retelling with a kick-butt princess, a dragon, and all the sass a girl could wish for.
What I’ve been watching:
Hubs and I finished watching ALIAS (soooob!!!!) and moved on to LOST. I loooved ALIAS, as you might recall. I had the same love for it that I have for FRINGE.
I’m really enjoying LOST, too. The characters are all interesting and fully formed, and I’m super invested in the mysteries surrounding the island. (But good golly, I would not look as good as my worst pajama day if I were on the island for that long. How are they all continuing to look amazing? Part of the island’s magic? That’s all I can guess.)
What I’ve been yarning: I’m still working on that rainbow yarn. But since the pinwheel spindle was getting heavy, I switched to another spindle for the second half. I’ve started spinning that at the opposite end, that way I can easily join them together and have one long strand of rainbow before I ply.
What the ferrets have been up to: The ferrets, as usual, are spoiled little monsters. Here they are with their ridiculous food (ridiculous because of the price I’m willing to pay for the really good stuff) with Ferretone on top. Look at their scrunchy little faces! This meal requires a lot of concentration.
Looks like Todd’s been shopping online again.
What the Kippy has been up to: Well, Kippy read THE ORPHAN QUEEN.
She’s been trying to deal with the ending ever since.
Other things you might be interested in: So, first off, THE ORPHAN QUEEN comes out this month! And I’m traveling a couple of places for it! If you live around New York City or Austin, I hope to see you in the next couple of weeks.
I’ll be in New York City at Books of Wonder with a few of my besties — Brodi Ashton, C.J. Redwine, Cynthia Hand, and Joy N. Hensley. We’ll be there on March 10 (OQ release day!) at 6pm.
Then, Brodi and I are heading to Austin to sign at The Book Spot at 6:30pm on March 12.
I’ve been making up some special, shiny quote cards to give out at those events. Even if you can’t make it, you can still preorder a book from either store (BoW has a handy link) and I’ll sign it for you!
This is a great time to get it because INFINITE, the third book in that series, is coming out in paperback on March 10. If you’ve been waiting to have a complete set in paperback, the wait is almost over!
We also reached 12k adds on Goodreads for THE ORPHAN QUEEN. (Actually we reached 13k and we’re almost to 14k right now, but no one noticed I was late for a teaser and I was pretty busy being really sick, so I didn’t make a teaser for those.)
And finally, I shared the title for OQ2.
